The munāfiq has dropped his mask completely. His face is finally revealed for what it is, and for what it has always seemed to be. It is the face of a kleptomaniacal and corrupt “tyrant”, whose true enemy is Islām. We are talking about Ilham Aliyev (İlham Əliyev), the president of Azerbaijan, a country that has made headlines in recent weeks over a ban on the hijāb imposed on female students and teachers.
Insidiously, the new requirements introduced by the law on school dress codes do not explicitly mention the hijāb, referring instead in vague terms to “additional” items deemed incompatible with school uniform standards or the “secular” nature of education. The measure has nevertheless given the administrations of numerous schools an excuse to target what was clearly the intended objective of the law. As a result, thousands of girls and teenagers have been expelled from school or denied entry, left outside the school gates in tears, shocked and frightened.
This is an act of unprecedented cruelty, but their cries of pain have reached the four corners of the earth, and we are certain they have risen to the heavens as well – Alhamdulillāh. It is from there that the strength and courage to resist and rebel against such a terrible and unjust imposition has come.
But since when has wearing the “veil” been a crime in a Muslim-majority country? This is not a question of religious denomination, of Shias versus Sunnis. What is happening in Azerbaijan is part of the anti-Islamic trajectory already pursued by the dictators of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan, who preceded Aliyev in subjecting the freedom to wear the hijāb to bans and restrictions, under the pretext of combating the infiltration of subversive and radical ideologies.
The decades of State-imposed “atheism” under the Soviet Union continue to leave their mark to this day, as these regimes once more defy the commands of Allāh subhānahu wa-taʿālā.
It feels as though we are witnessing Modi’s India, where the persecution of Muslims is reaching devastating new heights. Will the next step for Aliyev and his “bad company” of oppressors be the demolition of mosques? Or will they soon find some excuse to ban salāh, Ramadān, ʿĪd al-Fitr and ʿĪd al-Adhā?
Meanwhile, Aliyev did not miss the opportunity to reveal his true colours as a munāfiq. In an attempt to deflect attention from his anti-Islamic policies and reprehensible actions, he had the audacity to accuse the European Parliament of Islamophobia…but who is he to lecture anyone? His hypocrisy is astounding!
The Messenger of Allāhﷺ said:
“The best jihād is a word of justice before a tyrannical ruler” (Sunan Abī Dāwūd, 4344, sahīh).
