The tragedy in Palestine is not limited to the Gaza Strip. Our Palestinian brothers and sisters are facing new suffering on a daily basis in the occupied West Bank as well. In particular, in the Nour Shams refugee camp near Tulkarem, hundreds of families are living through the anguish of forced displacement as their homes are being demolished, guess by whom?
These demolitions are not isolated events. Rather, they are part of a plan of mass eradication that has been ongoing for decades, carried out with impunity and without any serious attempt to stop it by the so-called “international community.” Meanwhile, on the other side of the wall, settlers continue to celebrate, ready to replace the rightful Palestinian inhabitants with new extremist settlements.
This is the Netanyahu model, eagerly awaiting replication in Gaza, as well as in southern Lebanon and Syria.
From an Islamic perspective, this situation deeply recalls the value of justice (ʿadl) and the duty to defend the oppressed (al-mustadʿafīn).
The Noble Qūr’ān admonishes us – “Indeed, Allah commands justice…” (sūrat an-Nahl, 16:90) – and reminds us that oppression will not go unpunished: “…when the wrongdoers see the punishment, it will not be lightened for them, nor will they be granted respite” (sūrat an-Naḥl, 16:85).
The Best of Judges (Ahkamu al-Hākimīn) sees every suffering, even the silent ones made of tears hidden in the heart. All the more so, He is fully aware of the manifest humiliations inflicted upon human beings torn from their land, from the places where they grew up and where their ancestors lived.
Deprived of dignity, our Palestinian brothers and sisters in the West Bank and Gaza continue to resist with courage, to pray and to hope, despite the weight of pain and devastation surrounding them. Even amid trial, they find refuge in the invocation “Hasbiyallāh wa niʿma al-wakīl” – “Allāh is sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs” (sūrat ĀlʿImrān, 3:173) – and they show the entire Ummah how the light of true faith is always present, especially in the darkest moments, nourishing the soul and preventing it from giving in to blind and self-destructive violence.
Allāhu mawjūd! Palestine is first and foremost a matter of faithfulness to the principles conveyed in the Word of the Most High. Let us stand by Palestine with prayer, heart, and hope, until justice prevails.
