THE WORTH AND WEIGHT OF GOOD DEEDS

Reading time: 3m16ss

Our dear brother Muhammad Abu ʿAbd al-Rahmān has once again benefited us with one of his meaningful Islamic reminders, which we are pleased to share below with the digital Ummah. Please leave a comment and share it yourselves, In shāʾ Allāh, for perhaps – if the Most High wills – this small gesture may guide someone toward goodness and righteous deeds. Enjoy the reading! ☝️

Narrated by al-Mundhir ibn Jarīr (may Allāh be pleased with him).

We were in the presence of the Prophet ﷺ when he said:

“Whoever establishes a good practice in Islām will have the reward of it and the reward of those who act upon it after him, without their rewards being diminished in the least. And whoever introduces a bad practice in Islām will bear the burden of it and the burden of those who act upon it after him, without their burdens being diminished in the least”.

Muslim 1017
(Hadith sahīh)

All praise is due to Allāh, the One who sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth so that it may prevail over all religion.

I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allāh, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. May full praise be upon him, his family, and all his companions.

I ask Allāh to forgive all my mistakes and shortcomings, and to accept from me and from the brothers of the blog Swordless Jihād our good deeds, guiding us toward righteousness so that we may benefit the Muslim community in Italy.

The prophetic saying mentioned above is of great importance regarding the actions performed by us Muslims. I will try to be brief and succinct in the explanation, giving examples for the two types of people mentioned by the Prophet, may Allāh praise and preserve him.

In the first case, we have people who establish a good practice.

Imagine this scene:

A man and a woman perform the five daily prayers and add to them voluntary acts such as the Sunnah prayers linked to the obligatory ones. In addition, they fast on Mondays, Thursdays, and three days each lunar month. They marry, and Allāh blesses them with a son and a daughter. These childreen see their parents engaging in these righteous acts from the time they open their eyes: they witness good deeds, hear only kind words, and eventually begin to follow their example during their youth.

Allāh decrees the death of the parents, but the son and the daughter have grown up in truth and patience, inheriting these noble practices from them. Therefore, they continue to perform these deeds loved by Allāh with constant dedication. What do you think their parents will receive after their death? Good or bad? I swear by Allāh, their parents will have died in happiness and will be resurrected in happiness, until the Day of Judgment.

I think there is no need to mention the opposite example: the one who commits heresies, acts of terrorism, obscenities, other sins and has children who follow in such actions – except for those upon whom Allāh has had mercy and guided them.

Praise be upon the best of examples, our Prophet Muhammad, and all praise is due to Allāh.
